Maula Cathedral Hosts WUCWO Prayers for Maula Deanery

Catholic women from across Maula Deanery gathered in large numbers at Maula Cathedral on Saturday, 16th May 2026, to celebrate the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations (WUCWO) Day of Prayer.

The event focused on promoting inner peace, unity, and the critical role mothers play in shaping the future of the Church and the nation.

The colorful Eucharistic celebration was led by the Maula Deanery Catholic Women Association (CWA) Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Henderson Kumbasa, and concelebrated by Maula’s Assistant Parish Priest, Fr. Anselme Adzaklui Tume Kofi, FM.

Speaking during the event, the Guest of Honor, Sr. Jacqueline Mollen, challenged the women to be peacekeepers in their homes, workplaces, and communities. Grounding her speech in this year's WUCWO theme of peace, Sr. Mollen emphasized that global and national peace begins within the individual.

"My message was to encourage them to be one, and also for a life of prayer—that they should be people who pray every time," Sr. Mollen shared. "If they have peace in their heart, they will be able to share it in their homes. Wherever they are working, they will contribute the same peace to everyone."

She further urged the women to remain united as a community where they can share their talents and support each other's spiritual and physical growth. Sr. Mollen also made a special appeal for the nation, asking the women to pray fervently for Malawi.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Henderson Kumbasa highlighted the unique and powerful position women hold as the primary educators of the next generation. He noted that the future of both the Church and society depends heavily on the values mothers instill in their children today.

"Women have got a very big role to play in society because they teach the future generation," Fr. Kumbasa stated. "If they teach the children today how to love each other, how to live in peace, in unity, and how to love Jesus, then we have good Christians tomorrow and good citizens tomorrow."

Fr. Kumbasa also prayed for the CWA members to receive the courage needed to face family and spiritual challenges, stressing the importance of group unity over individual isolation.

Expressing her gratitude, the CWA Chairlady for Maula Deanery, Mrs. Gloria Namonde, thanked the members for their impressive turnout and promised that leadership would continue to guide and advise women on managing their homes in a Christian manner.

Reflecting on the day’s teachings, Mrs. Namonde noted that the event was highly beneficial both spiritually and socially.

"We are supposed to be Christ’s instruments of peace," Mrs. Namonde said. "As you heard, mothers are the custodians of the faith itself. The peaceful life that we nurture will contribute to the well-being of our children. If we have peace in our hearts, we are going to make a difference."

The WUCWO Day of Prayer concluded with a joyful sense of communion, leaving the women of Maula Deanery refreshed and equipped to foster peace in their homes and the wider world.
