Maula Cathedral Celebrates Christ’s Birth with Archbishop Tambala and Parish Clergy

The Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe, His Grace George Desmond Tambala, has called upon the faithful of Maula Cathedral to remain steadfast in faith and hope, even amidst life’s most daunting challenges.

Presiding over a vibrant Christmas Eve Eucharistic Celebration, Archbishop Tambala drew deep parallels between the struggles of the modern world and the humble, difficult circumstances of the Nativity.

During his homily, His Grace reminded the congregation that the birth of Christ was not without hardship, yet it fulfilled the greatest promise in history.

"The difficult circumstances surrounding Christ’s birth demonstrate that God’s plan can be fulfilled even in the most challenging moments," the Archbishop noted.

He encouraged parishioners to view their personal struggles through the lens of faith, stressing that God often allows difficult situations to unfold for a greater divine purpose. He urged the community to reject despair, reminding them that just as the Star of Bethlehem shone in the dark, God’s grace is most present during our darkest hours.

In a touching moment of solidarity with the global Church, Archbishop Tambala requested the congregation to keep Malawian missionaries in their constant prayers. He specifically mentioned Fr. Louis Chikanya, who recently departed for Latvia, and others serving outside the country’s borders, acknowledging their sacrifice in spreading the Gospel abroad.

As the celebration drew to a close, the Archbishop extended his heartfelt wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all parishioners and their families.

Speaking on behalf of the St. John Paul II Community, Mr. Patrick Manga expressed deep gratitude to the Archbishop for choosing to celebrate the birth of Christ with the Maula Cathedral family.

Mr. Manga also took the opportunity to wish His Grace a joyful and blessed festive season on behalf of the laity.

The Christmas Eve Mass was presided over by Archbishop Tambala as the main celebrant, with Parish Priest Fr. Francis Lekaleka and Fr. David Niwagaba as concelebrants.
