Maula Parish Launches Bible Month
The faithful of the Our Lady Of Africa Maula cathedral have been urged to make regular Bible reading part of their daily lives during the Month of the Bible.
The call has been made by Father Peter Makina of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe, who led the Eucharistic celebration at Maula Cathedral on Sunday 06 September.
Father Makina says many Catholics keep Bibles in their homes but rarely take time to read and reflect on the Word of God.
He has therefore encouraged the faithful to develop a habit of reading the Bible, just as they regularly use their mobile phones.
Father Makina says people can spend several minutes without their phones, yet they quickly feel the need to check them, and the same commitment should be applied to reading the Bible.
He says understanding Scripture can also help Christians support others by explaining and sharing the message of God.
Father Makina has since urged to spend less time on activities that have little value and instead dedicate more time to reading and reflecting on the Word of God, which, he says, guides believers on their journey towards the Kingdom of God.
This year, the bible month is being celebrated under the theme; "The word of God: the foundation of 125 years of evangelization and forming missionary disciples in Malawi".
